{Ex} Lawn Mower Virgin...

Would you believe me if I told you that I have never mowed before? I'm serious. Never ever ever. It always scared me. I guess you could say that my parents did a pretty good job of telling me how dangerous lawn mowers are--I was afraid to go near one in fear that I would lose a foot. Or two.

But my fear disappeared today. Oh, yes it did! Because guess what I did...

Uh-huh-uh-huh! I mowed! The front yard--I'll do the backyard tomorrow...which, by the way, is smaller than our front yard...

I set out to just read on my front porch. I'll tell y'all what book I'm reading in another post--this post is the celebration of me being a lawn mowing momma!

Back to what I was saying. I had already washed and straightened my hair for the day, had an ice cold Diet Coke and my book. I sat there for a moment and decided to do some raking up of old mulch to make room for our new mulch that's on my to-do list.

I looked around the yard and thought, I'm going to mow this yard! And I did. It wasn't nearly as hard as I imagined it to be. It was actually a lot of fun--and it reminded me of vacuuming, except harder.

I'm so proud of myself! I'm surprised I didn't come in to the house with a handkerchief to wipe off the sweat on my face and pop open an ice cold beer.

On second thought? That doesn't sound bad at all...

  1. I L.O.V.E mowing my yard...and I have almost 2 acres. The boyfriend (aka That Man) brings his riding lawnmower over for me to use and I go to town! It takes me almost 2 hours because I mow it 3 times: 1st time to cut it a little and make it easier to mow;2nd time a level lower to really mow it; and 3rd time with the level at the very top so that it blows all those lines of hay away. I love how it looks, the way my mind wanders when I'm on the mower and just being out in the fresh air and sunshine. It's always a great day when I get to mow! (I know, some people do call me a freak...lol!)

  3. I cannot recall the last time I mowed a lawn...maybe when I was a kid? I leave all the mowing to the hubby, although currently our lawn is WAY over-grown. Hmmm...maybe I need to go out there and start mowing?! What a wacky thought!

  4. Good for you!! I wouldn't mind mowing on days like this, when the temperature is mild, but I don't really even know how to start it. I suppose I could google that. LOL

  8. You go, girl! I've never, ever, EVER mowed a lawn before. It was something my Daddy always did and now, well, that's my husband's territory. Speaking of, the grass in the front yard is getting kind of unruly.... ;)

  12. I don't mind mowing but I miss the old yard it was smaller and I cold use my Adrienne powered mower with no engine...Going green is tough ...I am proud of you for joining the ranks of a mowing gals club!

  13. Lol! Awesome!
I've never mowed before either. I tried to once when I was a teenager, but nearly fell of the rock wall that borders my Dad's front lawn. That has since cured me of any temptation to use a lawn mower. Even though MY lawn is not bordered by a cliff. Lol!

  14. I actually really like mowing. The smells, the sounds, the relaxation...but I can't do it anymore because it hurts my carpal tunnel syndrome. :(

  15. I haven't yet mowed a yard either, no wait... I did when my husband book his foot, seven years ago.

It just isn't in my realm of things 'I love to do'.

  16. yay!! Way to lose your lawn mowing virginity! I use to cut grass in high school for money! I had a bunch of yards and charged 20 bucks or so a yard. I would make around 140 a week.. it was a pretty good gig. I worked on my tan, kept my arms toned, and didn't have to work nights or weekends ;-)

  17. Hahaha! You are too funny! I have often contemplated this, but then I'm afraid that if the lawn needs mowing, I would be stuck doing it EVERY time.

You go on with your bad self, woman!! :)

  18. We live in an apartment so I don't have to mow but I totally miss it. It's such good excercise!

  19. Uh oh... It has been my experience with the hubs that once I show him I can do something as well as he can, it becomes my job... I can mow, I grew up doing it, but there is no way I'm letting him know that... Unless he takes on one of my tasks... lol

  20. I have only helped mow the lawn one time with a push mower and one time with a rider. I didn't like it at all! I thought the rider might be fun but after about 5 minutes I was over it. I use my allergy to mowed grass as an excuse and it has been working like a charm! It does look like a great workout though!

  21. Go you! I am 34 and still a lawn mower virgin. It is my goal in life to practice lawn mowing abstinence. ;-)

  22. Girl you are hilarious! A nice cold corona with a lime would be perfect after mowing the lawn, if I do say so myself!
    Way to go friend!

  23. hope my husband doesn't read your blog! I don't mow, never have and have refused. My dad always said mowing wasn't a woman's chore, it was for the man (insert Tim Allen grunt). So that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

  24. I have never, ever mowed the lawn...I thought I was the only one, though. I'm afraid I'll somehow chop my foot off...maybe it's time to stop being such a chicken?

  25. I mowed my lawn for the first time when I was divorcing years ago... It was a HUGE moment for me... It was sort of a right of passage... I felt so strong and so ready to take on all those traditional husband jobs... I painted my basement shortly after...

  26. First off - girl power! Secondly, being home more I am tempted to do things like that - for my husband. But I would be out there with my baby bjorn on...umm no...I don't think so....so I leave it for him, weeds and all. Also...I have only mowed 1 time...when I was in hs at my parents house and I wanted to try. Both my husband and dad are ocd about the stupid pattern.

  27. That's so awesome! I haven't mowed in years. I used to BEG my dad to let me mow but I don't think he liked the way I did it so he didn't let me too often. ;)

Way to go! It is good exercise for sure!

  29. I love that you've never mowed the lawn before now. I grew up very spoiled and had never done a lot of things before I got married. My husband deserves an award for having to teach me how to iron and cook. I'll never forget the day he went to change my tire and I wanted to know where the spare and the car jack came from. How was I supposed to know it was in the trunk the whole time?! Yay for you mowing the lawn though!!

  30. I am a lawn mowing virgin! I don't know exactly why though, my dad always loved to mow the lawn and my husband takes pride in his yard so it never occurred to me...

Maybe I should try it! =D

  31. I need to mow my lawn. But I don't know if the mower has gas and what height the blade is set at, what if it is still set for winter? I could go buy some gas. I think I'll grab a coffee and sit on my computer instead.

    WAY TO GO!

  32. YAY YOU! Mowing was one of my chores growing up so i absolutely despise it now. I think i've done it once since i got married 6 years ago.
