Donut? Yes, Please!

Madelyn is a great eater--probably one of the best little eaters I have ever met. Well, she doesn't care for mustard after I gave her a bite of my Whataburger yesterday...but other than that? She eats and smiles the entire time.

So what happened today shouldn't have been of any surprise to me. I was trying to put Madelyn in her highchair except I was holding my prized hot pink frosted donut from Shipley Do-nuts. And let me tell you--that place is a treat, y'all. I don't have it in Mississippi, so my father in law has bought it for me aka McFatty us three times this week!! To die for delish...yum!

Anyway. I was holding the donut and trying to get her in the chair. I took one bite and set it down on the tray. BIG mistake. HUGE. Because Madelyn aka Lightning Hands had a hold on that thing faster than I could grab it back. Double fisted and eating it. All of it. She ate an entire donut--I think she was in heaven--and she also wore herself out....because after scrubbing off all of the icing? She literally passed out asleep.

A Letter to My #2...

Dear Madelyn,

I really want to write you this letter to document all of your amazing baby behaviors so far. I have been mesmerized by you since the day I met you. It's like this rush of love came and flooded me and I love it. Everything about you makes me smile more, laugh more and best of all?

Love more.

You are such an amazing baby.

Seriously.

You are so mellow and calm that I sometimes worry if you are okay! You rarely cry--and when you do it's usually because of something that Isabella has done to you (don't worry, I know she doesn't mean it. She just doesn't understand yet--although she is getting better each day!).

Your sleeping habits? I'm still amazed!

For a little one who kept me awake so much during my pregnancy at nite you are definitely letting me start to catch up now.

Like last nite? You woke up just for your paci and didn't wake us up until 5 to eat. I was shocked! And proud of you at the same time.

Now lets talk about eating...girlfriend, you were made to be an eater! You take the bottle like a champ--you literally chug it and gulp it down.

Take today at the doctor's office--a few important pieces of information for the Madelyn record books.

1) You have gained 1 pound (on the dot) and 1 inch (again, on the dot) in your two weeks and one day of life outside of the womb. The ped? Was so impressed with those stats, honey!

2) At your hearing test you were hungry (surprise surprise, honey!) and the doctor performing your test cracked up at my little piglet chugging away. She asked me if there was tequila in your bottle--although personally? I don't know too many people who chug tequila...

I love you so much, Miss Madelyn Reese. I know how blessed I am to have you as my little girl.

I want to raise you to be a loving, caring and compassionate girl. One who is able to forgive people, share with others and as someone who knows how truly lucky they are to be in such a loving home.

I love you, sweetheart, and thank you for the 2 amazing weeks so far. I'm looking forward to so many more with you.

Love,
Your proud and adoring Mommy

Can't Skip a Day Without Eating Something Weird Around Here....

She did it again, friends....

No, she didn't eat dog poop.

No, she didn't eat an acorn.

No, she didn't eat toilet paper (although she tries to all.the.time).

This had, lets say, much more value to it.

A lot more.

For Isabella's birthday she received a birthday check from her Great Grandpa.

My Grandpa who is fighting lung cancer.

My Grandpa that remembered her birthday amidst all he is battling right now.

I cried when I saw he sent her a card.

I cried more when I saw that he had sent her a check.

I called him to thank him.

Isabella told him "tutu" which is her way of saying thank you.

Fast forward to Wednesday morning.

I saw the check on the table. Leo was supposed to take it to base to deposit in our savings account that we have there.

I rolled my eyes at his forgetfulness (I swear the man forgets something almost every single day. Today? He forgot his phone....'nuff said).

I was sitting at the kitchen table on the laptop. I was getting annoyed with our internet provider....I could barely get on the internet yesterday.

Isabella was playing with some books by me. No biggie.

After I was done even trying to connect to the internet I went and got her clothes. I was singing to the music on the radio. The sun was filtering into our kitchen.

I got a wave of "todayisgoingtobeagreatdayicanjustfeelit" over me.

Then I saw something on the floor.

The birthday check. My old wave disappeared and got replaced with "holy$&!&shejustatepartofherbirthdaycheck!!!"

I called my mom in somewhat of a panic. She-in between cracking up-told me to just call Grandpa--he'll get a kick out of it.

I called him. He did get a kick from it. He laughed reminding me we were just talking about how now that she is a walker she'll eat more and more things.

Which is oh so true.....

On the plus side?

She is getting a new check. In tact. With no teethmarks and no missing pieces.

The other thing?

At least I didn't have to call poison control this time....
