The paci's resting place...
First, let me say...I'm ba-accck! And we have our lovable, huggable, cutie-patootie Macy. I cannot wait to go crazy with my camera and take pics of our sweet puppy!
Anyway. Back to the subject at hand.
The paci has been somewhat of a nemesis to me for almost 2 years now. It's an arch enemy of sorts. Awful.
Let me put it this way--Isabella? Would never ever ever go to sleep without it. Ever. I am not kidding...and, oh, how I wish I was kidding.
Fast forward it to Friday night--June 18th to be exact. After struggling and fighting with Isabella to get to sleep I decided that a nice evening on the porch at sunset would do her good. After all, we were in the Smoky Mountains--the view? Gorgeous. The mountain air? To die for.
So there we are. Rocking on a dark green wood rocking chair. {Talk about a total "mountain" moment, huh?!} and she starts going crazy. Nothing new until...
IT happened. She threw her paci. OFF the freaking mountain. I almost threw up. I almost cried.
Until she asked for her paci and I told her sorry...you threw it off the mountain, honey!
And she laughed, told me she threw her paci off the mountain and the squirrels had it.
Greatest freaking day of my life--and you know what? She is still off the paci 48 hours later. If you ask her where her paci is she will tell you, "Paci on the mountain. With squirrels! I threw it."
Seriously love it...best paci story ever!

awww awesome :)
my son has had a blanket (thats freakin huge) that hes been draggin around since day 1 we finally let it go to rest about 3 days ago.. so far so good... still makes me sad my baby is growin uP!
Abby is a thumb sucker, but Izzy was my paci girl. We went cold turkey and told her we needed to give her pacis to some new babies. She was upset at first, but overall it was so much easier than I'd anticipated. Glad it's been a smooth transition!
That is awesome!! Maybe we'll have to take a trip to the mountains to accomplish that too!!!
So far Z hasn't really liked the paci much...I'm hoping it stays that way so I never have to worry about detox!
This is the cutest story.. Love the mountains.. it's home~ miss you girl!
Welcome home, and what an awesome way to ditch the paci!! I'm going to forward this to a friend who is already thinking about how to get rid of her son's!! :-D
NICE! That is an awesome story, and now you have it forever!
That's great! I took my son's paci away at 2 3/4 years old. Just couldn't take it anymore and I told him that the pacis went on the airplane to paci land. And that was the end of it- no fussing, no crying! Glad your transition went well too :)
That is a great end to the Paci! Natalie was our easiest. She lost her favorite paci, I think she was 2, and when I gave her a different one, she was mad and threw it on the floor. She never asked for her paci again! She still has a mind of her own and I love that about her.
I can just see it sailing off the mountain top in slow-mo. I'm so glad it ended up being a blessing!
Hey, that's the best way. You didn't take it or send it away...she did it all by herself!
(Now, you just have to make sure she can't find any of hers lying around the house!)
Congrats, momma!
Oh, that is awesome. Good for her (and you!). I had ELEVEN paci's when I was young. I had to have them in their various spots each time I went to sleep. And they were those big brown ugly ones. I was almost 4 or 4 when I gave them up.
hehe hilarious!! Seriously love this quitting the paci story!!
chelle from one binky mom to another...HOORAY! we are going on a month and it is the best thing EVER!
Go Isabella!
WOW - that is the best paci story ever!! My kids never had them so I didn't have to go through this stage except when Miss Maddy started using one of her my first babies as a paci - but it went for a wash and never returned. I'm a mean Mama. LOL. Have a great week!
Ummmmm. Can my 2 year old do that please? I keep hearing these fab stories about people's little ones going off the paci... Dream stories! Never gonna happen for us. I promised myself i'd take it away before his 3rd B-day, which is in less than a month! Wish me luck.
And congrats BTW for being paci-free. I'm jealous!
fabulous!! now could you tell your daughter to tell mine that she needs to throw her fingers off the mountain? she is a glorified pointer and middle finger sucker and i dont see it stopping any time soon...
Hee hee hee!! That is classic.
Also, so glad you're back!
That's awesome!! I wish fingers...well, thumbs actually could be thrown off mountains. Wait. Maybe not. :)
Our middle one still goes to sleep with "the thumb". I don't even think she realizes she's doing it and for the whatever reason nothing we try is working.
Welcome back!!
That is awesome! She took that so well, that's amazing!! Can't wait to hear more about your trip! :)
I can only imagine the panic that first went through your body as she threw it.
But how flipping awesome is that outcome?!!?
I am glad you survived.. OMG my olderst son Cheo would never give up his pacifier... He was 2 and I finally cut the edges off and he didn't like the feel.... his dad would give in and buy some more .... I would cut them again until he didn't want it anymore.
I am SO using this with K someday. Even if I have to drive to the mountains just for that... ;-)
And as I like to say... whatever works!!
So, I came over here to say thanks for the sweet, sweet comment on my blog and low-and-behold...the cutest paci story I have ever heard!(okay, read) It was just the smile I needed! Thanks. :)
Thank goodness it was so easy! My 2.5 year old was still using it at night, despite a variety of wheeling and dealing. Finally I had to lie. I said "if you chew that paci too long your teeth will be crooked and fall out and you won't be able to have candy any more." Let me tell you that child never mentioned her paci again :) My husband tried to make me feel guilty about it but whatever. It was a tieeny, tiny, itsy bitsy little lie...for her own good!
